VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
full-time  |  $22.00 - $28.85 per hour

Emerald City Pet Rescue is a unique animal rescue that has the resources to provide comprehensive, high-quality medical care to every animal we see. This includes working up complex cases in our on-site hospital – complete with ultrasound, digital radiography, a dental unit with digital radiography, wet tables, in-house labs, cold laser, and a full surgical suite – and utilizing board-certified specialists whenever needed. If you’re a diligent, bright, compassionate LVT looking for an opportunity to put your knowledge and skills to work in a non-profit setting committed to serving animals’ needs, we are looking for you! Here at ECPR, you never have to convince a client that their pet really needs care. You won’t have to go over estimates with clients and act as a bargaining intermediary between them and the doctors. You will be able to complete every diagnostic and treatment warranted for the welfare and health of every one of your patients every day. No arguing, no haggling! And no awful conversations about whether to euthanize a pet or relinquish it to a rescue – we are that rescue!

Our Clinic is also equipped with a highly competent and cheerful team of licensed veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants, an energetic and wonderful staff veterinarian, and one haggard old medical director! We work closely with a large team of animal caregivers and fosters to oversee the health of our dogs, cats, and small exotic mammals awaiting adoption or in permanent foster care through ECPR.

Our ideal LVT would possess the following:

  • License to practice as a veterinary technician in the state of Washington (or in process of obtaining a WA license)

  • Competency in completing general animal health care tasks, including inducing and monitoring anesthesia, monitoring, and medicating hospitalized patients, performing dental care, performing dental and regular radiographs, bandaging, and wound care

  • Understanding of basic biosecurity practices and infectious disease management in a group animal setting

  • Rockin’ sense of humor and/or friendly, approachable attitude

  • Willingness and patience to answer lots of questions from various staff, fosters, and other departments in a timely way each day

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and medical record keeping

  • Familiarity with Avimark, Outlook, and Google Drive or ability to adapt quickly to new software

  • Experience or interest in shelter, rescue, or other non-profit animal care

  • Fear-Free or Cat Friendly certification, small exotics experience are pluses!

  • Willingness to obtain Fear Free Shelter certification

animal caregiver
part-time  |  starts at $19+ per hour

This position works hands-on with the dogs, cats and critters doing everything from deep cleaning to exercising the animals and providing enrichment. Our animal caregivers are dedicated to the overall well-being of every animal at Emerald City Pet Rescue.

Animal Rescue Caregiver Job Duties:

  • Ensure the animal’s safety and well-being.

  • Provide access to fresh and clean water. Give animal’s clean and comfortable bedding.

  • Take animals out at regular intervals. Unless the animal has medical restrictions, animals should be taken out every 2 to 4 hours.

  • Observe and monitor animals by completing health logs and further communicating any other observations as needed to appropriate sources.

  • Give the animal’s daily enrichment.

  • Clean urine, stool, and other messes whenever it occurs.

  • Assist with dishes, laundry and other team responsibilities when needed.

  • Stay up to date about the animals by reading their kennel cards, signs and reading shift report notes, including shift reports for shifts not worked.

  • If there is ever extra time, animal caregivers should participate in further deep cleaning and organizing of the facility. It is also important that we maintain a clean environment throughout the workday. This means along with the general cleaning we provide the animals; we should also take steps to keep the facility organized and keeping a general eye for cleanliness.

  • Oversight of necessary chores and facilities management with ability to execute when needed.

  • Document and clearly relay information to the appropriate systems and departments.

  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with federal and state legal regulations and Infection Control plans

Education, Experience, Licenses, Training, and Skills Required:

  • Love and compassion for animals.

  • The ability to work under stressful conditions.

  • Significant knowledge of animal care.

  • Detail-oriented, proactive, ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

  • Proficient of Microsoft Office suite.

  • Must be able to work independently, in small and large groups, and with diverse work styles and backgrounds.

  • Must demonstrate professional verbal and written communication skills.

Work Environment:

This job is onsite in Seattle, Washington. The work environment described herein represents the activities and surroundings of the position. The work environment is in indoor and outdoor setting with moderate to extremely loud noise levels.

transport associate

The transport Associate helps animals by transporting them into, around, and out of various locations both within and outside of our organization. Accomplishes department objectives by completing tasks as assigned, organizing, and monitoring adoption process. This position exists to support and uphold the standards of our adoption policies and contracts.

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Transports animals by securing animals in our fleet vehicles or alternate form of transport as needed. Lifting animals; moving them to and from special service, treatment locations, between organization facilities and to their potential homes. 

  • Support animals and their future families by offering support and encouragement; being punctual and attentive to procedure schedules; demonstrating caring and cultural sensitivity. 

  • Complete Home Check tours and ensure the environment and adopters are an approved match for each pet.  

  • Collect the Adoption Fees and finalize Adoptions in our Database. 

  • Document and clearly relay information to the appropriate systems and departments. 

  • Transports equipment and supplies by request; delivering them to assigned facilities or locations. 

  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with federal and state legal regulations and Infection Control plans.
