Temporary foster care gives rescue pets an opportunity to learn and grow in a home environment while they wait for their forever home. Permanent foster care provides a loving home to pets who have extra medical or behavioral needs.
ELIGIBILITY
Potential fosters should be 21 years of age or older and should live no more than 45 minutes away from our facilities. Additionally, fosters must have the ability to transport animals to and from our facilities for adoption meet and greets and veterinary appointments.

FOSTERING STEPS
1. fill out the foster survey
This online survey takes 10 minutes to complete. Please fill it out entirely before submitting to avoid any delays: Foster Survey
2. meet and greet
Attend a meet and greet with your foster pet. Be prepared to bring your entire human household (resident dogs included for dog fosters), as well as the items listed on the Foster Checklist.
3. sign the foster agreement
If it’s a match, sign the foster agreement and start preparing for your foster pet. If you rent, let your landlord know you’ll be fostering.
4. home check
The foster program coordinator will call you to schedule a home check. They will bring the pet and all of the medications, and supplies to your home. Congratulations... you’re a foster parent!
tips:
Follow-ups are usually weekly. This is the perfect time to let us know how the pet is doing and if you need anything.
what is a permanent foster home?
Emerald City Pet Rescue saves dogs, cats, and small animals with known and unknown medical needs. Sometimes, these medical needs are found to be very extensive, resulting in the pet requiring a permanent place in foster as our clinic team tends to their health. “Permanent foster” is an umbrella term used to categorize hospice pets, sanctuary pets, pets with extreme medical challenges, and otherwise "not-adoptable at this time" pets.
